COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH TEST OF BRICK
COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH TEST OF BRICK
OBJECTIVE
To find out the compressive strength of given brick
INSTRUMENT REQUIRED
1. Brick
2. Motar(cement)
3. The compression testing machine
THEORY
Compressive strength is the capacity of a material or structure to withstands load tending to reduce rise or opposed to tensile strength which withstands loads tending to elongate . compressive strength resists compression . compressive strength can be measured by plotting applied force against formation in universal testing machine
Compressive strength (<!–[if gte msEquation 12]>C0<![endif]–>
) =<!–[if gte msEquation 12]>PA<![endif]–>
Where P = load which causes failure of brick
A = area of brick
PROCEDURE
· The dimensions of the brick was measured by using scale.
· The specimen brick was immersed in water for 24 hour.
· The fog of the brick was filled with 1:3 motar and brick was stored under damp jute bags for more then 16 hour followed by immersion in water for 3 days
· The brick was subjected to compression machine and then maximum load at which the specimen fails was noted for the determination of compressive strength
